Economic worries impact the financial markets. When you throw in political risks, those economic worries may become emotionally driven as well. And as 2025 is now more than two months in, the stock market and the economic readings are reflecting some of the fears.

At the end of 2024, almost every market strategist was calling for the S&P 500 to rise 10% or so in 2024. There have been no significant updates to those broad market calls as of yet, but now is a time to consider whether the previous “Trump Bump” after the election will come with the “Trump Put” as tariffs and weaker economic readings are weighing on the market.
The S&P 500 is currently showing a performance in the red at -1.6% and the NASDAQ-100 is also in the red at -3.0% year-to-date (YTD).
